Baroque Music Montana Presents: In Celebration of Earth

A concert, "In Celebration of Earth," carves space for reflection on the changing climate, (optional: through moods of beauty and solace, elements of earth themed repertoire, and local composers.) Presented by Baroque Music Montana on the "Beyond Baroque" series, this program features music primarily from the Modern as well as Romantic era for violin and piano. Musicians include Bozeman Symphony Concertmaster and recent soloist Carrie Krause on violin and MSU Professor of Piano, Julie Gosswiller.

Repertoire opens with a Metis fiddle tune from the Fort Peck Reservation, followed by Brahms' Carinthian Lake inspired Sonata No. 1, and night music by John Cage and the short-lived Lili Boulanger. Danaus by MSU student composer Thomas Meinzen traces the life and migration of the Western Monarch. Blue Curve of the Earth by Tina Davidson, commissioned by famed violinist Hilary Hahn, was composed in Wyoming at the Ucross artist retreat. Pulitzer prize winning composer John Luther Adams wrote Three High Places for solo violin, inspired by an Alaskan childhood haunt of Carrie's.
