Infusing Digital Literacy Across Campus Curriculum

Brian Johnsrud, a Montana State University alumnus and Rhodes Scholar, will deliver a keynote speech at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 31, on campus. “Infusing Digital Literacy Across Campus Curriculum” is part of MSU’s Spring ePortfolio Showcase. The speech, which will take place in Inspiration Hall in Norm Asbjornson Hall, is free and open to the public.

In his talk, Johnsrud will explain that communication, critical thinking, creativity and collaboration are essential skills across all disciplines and that it’s also increasingly essential that students learn to practice these skills using digital tools. Johnsrud will share his journey in education and technology since graduating from MSU and topics of digital literacy across universities and supporting students as they develop the skills to succeed in their careers and civic lives.

Johnsrud, a native of Big Sandy, graduated from MSU in 2006 with a degree in English and, with his Rhodes Scholarship, earned master’s degrees in literature and anthropology from Oxford University in 2007. Johnsrud then attended Stanford University, earning an interdisciplinary doctorate in humanities, digital media and education.

He currently leads Adobe’s worldwide education learning and advocacy teams. Before Adobe, Johnsrud was a secondary teacher and university educator and researcher, directed a digital humanities and education research lab at Stanford, and led the content and curriculum team at Khan Academy.

MSU’s Office of Academic Affairs is sponsoring the Spring ePortfolio Showcase to celebrate ePortfolio efforts on campus. In addition to the keynote talk, the showcase will include student and faculty presentations, refreshments, prize drawings and more. ePortfolios are part of the university’s strategic plan to encourage sustained reflection on curricular, co-curricular and dynamic learning.
