City of Bozeman Community Engagement Downtown Parking
On February 1, 2022, Staff presented a work session to the City Commission recommending the City of Bozeman implement a seasonal paid parking system to manage demand on the downtown parking system and to construct additional parking supply (i.e. garages, additions to the current garage). The recommendation was made based on data collected during an August 2021 Occupancy Study for the downtown parking system. The Study show a severely constrained supply and a need for the Parking program to use additional tools to manage demand.
At the February work session, the City Commission requested staff engage with the community and downtown constituents to identify outstanding concerns about the implementation of paid parking, to gather input about creating an employee permit program and directing any surplus revenues from paid parking.
During the last two weeks of March and early April, staff will host 5 focus group conversations with business owners, employees, downtown patrons, and partner organizations to identify community concerns about paid parking and hear input on the design of an employee permit program and surplus revenues. Three focus groups will be held in person and two will be held virtually. Individuals interested in participating need to sign up ahead of time on sign up genius. You can find more background on this page including the presentation to Commission and information from the staff report – we strongly encourage those interested in participating watch the commission presentation and read these materials before attending the focus group session for the most productive engagement session possible. Additionally, we are including links to last winter’s community engagement effort and the Occupancy study done in August 2021.
