In this 2-hour, Type Specimen Workshop participants will be introduced to the historic craft of letterpress printing at Montana State University’s studio. Housing over 400 cases of type MSU has an extensive collection of typefaces and three vintage printing presses. In this workshop, you will typeset metal type and then print your form on a 1948 Vandercook No4 Printing Press. Participants will take home a copy of their specimen pages for keepsakes and pages will later be assembled into a type identification book. This workshop is a hands-on experience, and letterpress printing is a technical trade that takes physical work—your printed pages will truly be a result of hands-on explorations and processes.
