Montana State University’s Continuing, Professional and Lifelong Learning hosts a non-credit summer course called “Nature Writing in Big Sky Country: Journaling in the Last Best Place.”
This course explores a range of Western literature and nature writing through readings, journaling, and discussion. Taught by visiting scholar Peter B. Olson of Mississippi State University, students will learn writing strategies in several forms central to nature writing including journals, essays, reflective narratives, and advocacy pieces intended to change minds about environmental issues. Discussions on the writing process from brainstorming to publishing are also included.
Students will visit the Ivan Doig Archive and explore the rich literary opportunities on the MSU campus. The course is open to non-traditional students and life-long learners.
The course meets Thursday afternoons from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on July 11, 18 and 25. Registration is $169. For more information or to enroll, visit http://ato.montana.edu/continuinged and click on Personal Enrichment or call (406) 994-6550.
