SymBozium: Is the American Dream Dead?
Ellen Theatre, 17 West Main St., Bozeman MT 59715

Community Events
September 28, 2022 @ 7:00pm - 8:00pm

It’s long been the mythology of America that anyone--regardless of class, race, or gender--can rise from rags to riches if they have a bit of natural talent and an inclination for hard work. But is this really true? Has it ever been? What is the American Dream? Join us to discuss the shifting attitudes about the notions of meritocracy and privilege; and how our feelings about the American Dream can affect our behavior, politics, and even our overall sense of well-being.

Nationally recognized thought leaders Matthew Staiger (Harvard University) and Ariana Flores (The Equity Project) will be joined onstage by Montana indigenous scholar Shane Doyle (MSU) and moderator Jelani Mahiri (MSU). The audience will be encouraged to join in the conversation, sharing their perspectives with neighbors in a respectful, productive dialogue designed to foster civil discourse in our community.

SymBozium is an award-winning forum for civil discourse presented by the Bozeman Public Library. At this divisive time in our world, the need to consider and understand diverse perspectives is critical, especially within our community. This free participatory event series features current topics and keynote speakers representing varied points of view.

SymBozium 2022 is made possible by Presenting Sponsor Element Bozeman; Supporting Sponsors Oracle and Foundant Technologies; Partner Sponsors Feast, Montana Town & Trail, Stillwater Strategy Partners, Woodham Property Management; and Digital Sponsor Futura Kitchen Cabinetry.
