“Där det finns någon som berättar, där lever sagan” (Wherever someone is speaking, the fairytale lives)

-Marléne Nilsén Lavenlay

Marléne Nilsén Lavenlay’s photographs will transport the viewer into a world of wonder, mystery and intrigue. Lavenlay is a visual storyteller, creating a narrative expressing a love of nature and the human spirit. The artist will be traveling from Sweden to celebrate the exhibition and to explore more of Montana’s natural beauty.

The artist writes, “Without nature we are nothing. Without us, nature is still everything.”

The exhibition will consist of approximately 15-20 limited edition photographs with a balance of portraits and landscapes and will be on display at the Old Main Gallery’s upper story viewing room through December.

Joining Lavenlay is fiber artist, Jennifer Olsson. Olsson is a third generation Montanan who creates one-of-a-kind works of wearable art using fine woven wool, and Montana bison fur.  As a long-time member of the Montana Bison Association, Olsson has developed relationships with bison ranchers across Montana. All bison are humanely managed with their health and well being given the utmost priority.

“I believe in the value of bison as a measure of national health,” Olsson said. “Fashion, as I practice it, works with bison in old ways to create new ways to experience this magnificent creature as a provider of warmth and inspiration; uniting its past with our present.”

A fly-fishing guide and outfitter since 1985,  Olsson spends summers in Sweden with her husband, Lars-Ake, a riverkeeper on Idsjöströmmen, the first catch-and-release managed fishery in Scandinavia.
