View Business's WebsiteKent Lewis is a Washington, D.C. based photographer recognized for his evocative abstract, landscape, and street photography. In a career spanning decades, Kent has photographed the scenery, architecture, and people of Europe, Asia, and the Western Hemisphere: from Alaska to Argentina. Trained in art and photography since early childhood, his imagery is largely influenced by the visual language of 19th- and 20th-century Impressionism and Abstract Expressionism.
Lewis's photographs often highlight his focus on composition, with a notable emphasis on form and texture. He frequently incorporates elements of aleatoric or serendipitous art—found both in nature's inherent randomness and the overlooked fragments of discarded man-made materials and infrastructure—transforming everyday observations into worlds of their own.
Kent recently retired after 33 years as a career executive in the US Federal Government. He is a graduate of the George Washington University and the American High School in Mexico City, and a is a US Army veteran.

The collection on view at Gem Gallery highlights Kent’s abstract photography, featuring unexpected textures and surfaces found in the everyday world. Each image reflects his painterly eye, turning overlooked details into compositions that evoke the feeling of abstract art. This exhibit marks both a creative milestone and a personal homecoming, made possible through the encouragement of his daughter, Charlotte Lewis, a member of the Gem Gallery team.
