As someone committed to environmental consciousness, the irony of my medium is not lost on me. Mountains of Waste stands as a reflection of this paradox. It celebrates the act of upcycling discarded electronic waste, yet simultaneously relies on electricity to run the very objects often deemed obsolete. It examines the relationship between nature and technology, questioning whether they can coexist. In a world that should strive to minimize its environmental footprint, Mountains of Waste calls attention to the tension between innovation and sustainability and our insatiable need for the new, and nostalgia for the old.
Through this work, I invite the viewer to reflect on the discarded tech that surrounds us and the ways in which it can be repurposed, while acknowledging the complex role that electricity plays in powering our modern-day environment.

Artist Statement
Consumer technology is often discarded before its time is truly up. Televisions, an integral part of our daily lives, are often thought to be utilitarian and mundane but when pushed beyond their intended purpose they can be used to create something more. When grouped together they can create something new. Through the manipulation of analog signal paths and the repurposing of savaged television sets I aim to evoke a sense of nostalgia while challenging conventional thought about both media and obsolete technology.
