Makayla Camel is an Indigenous photographer from the Flathead Reservation whose work examines themes of identity, family, and place. Utilizing analog photography and alternative processes—such as gum bichromate and cyanotype—her work showcases documentary approaches with process-driven aesthetics.
A graduate of Montana State University’s School of Film and Photography program, Makayla continues to work at the University as a photo assistant. She has participated in assisting workshops led by renowned alternative process photographer Christina Z. Anderson and her work has also been featured in the Zootown Arts Community Center’s gallery show, “Indigenizing the ZACC: We Are Still Here
