On Friday, August 14, the community gathered to celebrate the dedication of the new I-Ho Pomeroy Peace Park at the corner of Mendenhall Avenue and North Black Avenue.
The dedication celebration began at 5pm, giving community members an opportunity to experience the new public gathering space. The celebration honored the life and legacy of beloved community leader I-Ho Pomeroy, whose kindness, generosity, and commitment to bringing people together left a lasting mark on the Bozeman community.
The celebration featured food catered by I-Ho’s daughter, Jin-Ju, owner and operator of I-Ho’s Korean Grill. Stephen Davis, an enrolled member of the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe and descendant of the Blackfeet Nation, led a prayer, song, and land dedication. Remarks were shared by Jamie Saitta, City of Bozeman Assistant Parks and Recreation Director; Jen Madgic, City of Bozeman Commissioner; and Ellie Staley, Downtown Bozeman Partnership Executive Director. Dave Crawford, a Bozeman Rotary member, led the Peace Pole dedication ceremony. I-Ho’s husband, Derik, shared heartwarming stories and memories of I-Ho. He closed the celebration by cutting the ribbon, officially marking the new space as a City of Bozeman park.
Including I-Ho's family, City of Bozeman, Sanbell, Haselden Construction, Bozeman Rotary Club, Department of Commerce, Gallatin County and Downtown Bozeman Partnership.
Community members are encouraged to stop by I-Ho Pomeroy Peace Park, take a moment to enjoy the new gathering space, and reflect on the legacy of kindness, connection, and community that I-Ho Pomeroy inspired. The park offers a welcoming place to pause, gather, and celebrate the spirit of someone who brought so many people together.
